David and the Norwich Conservatives team issued a freedom of information request to Norwich City Council after hearing from many residents about issues with their council house and getting timely repairs. This request revealed that in 2020 the Council received 21 complaints about damp issues. In the first nine months of 2023 this rose to 76 - a rise of 260% before the year is even finished. All this is happening whilst the Council is sitting on millions of pounds of underspend in the housing budget with money that is earmarked for improving council homes.
The Conservative government is introducing a requirement on social landlords to address such issues rapidly so that residents are not affected. David is calling on the City Council to improve the service for residents and resolve issues around damp or mould immediately, without waiting for new rules to come into force.
